Fleur Anderson to focus on housing, climate, Putney High Street and of course Brexit

Fleur Anderson will be launching her bid to become Putney's next MP on Sunday, with Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP, at 2pm Sunday 4 November , Platt Centre, Felsham Road.



Labour say that this election is a Brexit referendum and Ms Anderson asserts that her position is no secret, she has always campaigned for Remain and for a People's Vote.

She says, ‘I'm looking forward to this election. It is a big opportunity for Putney people to get a new MP who will fight for what they care about. The Conservatives won narrowly here last time and the ex-MP has turned away from the party because of its extremism. Its time for a new Government that will save the NHS, increase funding for our local services instead of constant cuts, increase the minimum wage and take urgent climate action and the housing crisis. I will fight against the privatisation of Queen Marys Hospital and back Labour's plan for 5,000 more GPs, cut waiting times to see your doctor, and for free prescriptions.

‘Housing will be a priority for me as your MP - we need more social and affordable housing and a fair deal for renters. I've taken on the developers and council over the lack of housing on the Alton regeneration in Roehampton and I'll keep fighting for our basic right for good housing for all.’

She got involved in local politics when Wandsworth Council closed the local One O'Clock Club she had taken her children to. Ever since, she has campaigned for more funding for schools and children’s services. She went on to become a local councillor leading the campaign for the 20mph limit across Putney and actively campaigning against the Heathrow expansion.

She has worked for international charities for over 20 years, campaigning against poverty and on the environment. She was an aid worker on the ground in Bosnia before and after the war and founded Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees. Fleur now runs a local community centre for older people, families and young people.

Ms Anderson says she'll take action on climate, 'We can’t wait for a few years whilst we decide what to. I’ve campaigned around the world on the environment for 20 years and I’ve given up on waiting. I will make urgent policy that will cut carbon emissions now, oppose the Heathrow expansion and clean up the air on our High Street.'

Commenting: "Our High Streets are being neglected and there are too many empty shops. Labour will stop shops being empty for more than 12 months and I will work with all businesses to bring back life to the High Street and to smaller parades".
