Holybourne Day Centre is for older people with Alzheimer's and Dementia

The council has announced that it has made the decision to close the Holybourne Day Centre in response to the Government’s guidance on social distancing and the urgent need to protect older people and vulnerable adults who are at increased risk of the virus.

All those people who currently use the centre have been contacted with information regarding what continued support will be available. This will include daily check-ins by phone and home visits, including delivering food and drink for people at home alone.

Other open access day centres provided by the voluntary sector are also closing including Regenerate Rise, Furzedown, Hestia and Wandsworth Asian Women’s Association. This decision was taken by each of the providers, who have assured users they will continue to provide support, counselling and information by telephone.

Cabinet member for adult social care and health Cllr Melanie Hampton said: “This was a very difficult decision but ultimately we have to look at all our services in the light of Government guidance and review the way we provide them if necessary. Keeping people safe has to be our priority.

“We have contacted the users of the centre and their families and will stay in daily contact with them. We will do all we can to continue to support these vulnerable residents.”
