The distinctive orange fascia of Halfords is a thing of the past on Putney High Street junction with Lacy Road. A commercial retail agent who covers the area reports that "an opportunity arose for the landlords to serve their break notice on Halfords".

However spokesperson for Halfords implied that the decision was the companies: "After reviewing our shops in the local area we have decided not to renew the lease in Putney when it expires on 5 August 2018. We’re working closely with our colleagues and they will be relocating to other local stores when the Putney branch closes. The good news is we have four other stores within four miles drive of this branch, and the teams in these stores look forward to welcoming our Putney customers."

The commercial retail agent commented on the number of empty units on Putney High Street: "These blocks that are up for redevelopment really don’t help matters as units sit vacant for years because retailers don’t want to commit to spending large shop fits when they might be kicked out after a few years."

The store closed for the final time on Sunday (5 August).
