An explosion believed to have been caused by an issue with a water tank hit a shop premises on Putney in the early hours of Monday morning (26 September).

Glass from the building that used to house the Pantong Thai restaurant was strewn across the Upper Richmond Road leading to road closures between Putney Bridge Road and Dryburgh Road.

The Upper Richmond Road is now reopened with just a single lane closure westbound at the site of the explosion.

Local residents reported hearing a loud bang from the shop at around 5am which has been under refurbishment for several months

A Met Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a loud bang in the rear of a shop.

“Police worked to assist London Fire Brigade who later said they believed it was caused by a water tank issue.”
