Alastair Main accused of sexual and racial assault at the London Rowing Club

A former captain of the London Rowing Club on Putney Embankment is facing charges of sexual and racially aggravated assault after an incident in the club last December.

35-year-old Alastair Main is accused of lifting up a woman’s skirt, slapping her on the behind and pouring beer over her head and calling her an ‘Australian slut’ according to report in the Evening Standard.

Mr Main who works in the legal department of asset management firm Schroders denied the allegations when he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court this week.

Mr Main became captain of the club after a successful rowing career in which he represented England and became national champion in 2003. The club has sent three rowers to the Rio Olympics with Phelan Hill winning gold in the men’s eight and Jessica Eddie winning silver in the women’s eight.

The accused has been bailed unconditionally for a trial due to take place later this year.
