The man who pushed a 55-year-old finance worker from Putney under a tube train has admitted trying to kill the father of two.

Alain Lesjongard, who works in compliance in the financial sector, was standing on the platform of Bayswater underground station on Thursday 2 November at around 5pm when 29-year-old Alan Alencar pushed him under an oncoming train.

Alencar, aged, 29, who used to work for the Royal Mail and was on day release from a mental institution, walked away as his victim lay on the tracks. The driver of an oncoming train applied the brakes but was unable to stop before passing over Mr Lesjongard. He managed to avoid more serious injury by curling up into a ball which allowed the train to pass over him. He then managed to crawl out from under the train having suffered just a broken ankle and cuts.

Mr Alencar has subsequently appeared in court and is pleading not guilty to a charge of attempted murder. It is understood he was on day release from a mental health unit at the time of the incident. He remains in custody and will appear at Blackfriars Crown Court on 1 December.

Alencar pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder and will be sentenced on March 9 after a psychiatric assessment.
