A 55-year-old finance worker from Putney has survived being pushed under a tube train.

Alain Lesjongard, who works in compliance in the financial sector, was standing on the platform of Bayswater underground station on Thursday 2 November at around 5pm when 29-year-old Alan Alencar is alleged to have pushed him under an oncoming train. There is nothing to indicate the pair were known to each other.

Mr Lesjongard, who is a father of two, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Mr Alencar has subsequently appeared in court and is pleading not guilty to a charge of attempted murder. It is understood he was on day release from a mental health unit at the time of the incident. He remains in custody and will appear at Blackfriars Crown Court on 1 December.
