Police stepped up patrols in the Putney area after receiving a number of reports of a group of males in the area armed with weapons.

In addition a Section 60 order was issued for the boroughs of Wandsworth and Merton on 23 October. This gives the police extra powers to stop and search suspects. It allows officers to search anyone in a certain area, for example, when there is evidence that serious violence has taken place or may take place.

No further reports have been made since the issuing of the order and it is understood that no arrests were made.

At the same time the police received unconfirmed reports of potentially linked robberies in Mitcham.

The police say that violent activity by street gangs does increase in the run up to Halloween and measures are being taken to stop ‘ride outs’ in which groups of youths on motor scooters engage in crime and anti-social activities.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 and quote CAD 4506/23Oct.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
