Student at Kingston University faces terrorism charges

A twenty-year-old man from Southfields has appeared in court after allegedly been found in possession of a phone containing a video of a live crucifixion and instructions on how to make an explosive device.

Maiser Abdula of Southmead Road was arrested on 24 April having previously been stopped from entering the country at Dover earlier in the year. He was charged under section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 following an investigation by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command.

The charges state "that on or before 22 February 2019 you had in your possession a document or record containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58 (1) (b) of the Terrorism Act 2000."

Abdula, who is a student at Kingston University did not enter a plea when he appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, 29 April.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Oxford Crown Court on May 10.
