Two set on man on moped they suspected of being a thief

Wandsworth Police wish to speak to three men who were involved in an altercation near Putney High Street on the evening of Thursday 1 June.

The confrontation was on Weimar Street filmed by an onlooker and it shows two men assaulting a man who appears to have earlier been riding a moped which can be seen on the ground nearby. The man attempts shield himself from the kicks and blows but has his crash helmet ripped off and further kicks are aimed at his head.

One of the men shouts at the man on the floor ‘You tried to attack me with this’ while hitting him with the handle end of a hammer.

Wandsworth Police said, “At this stage it appears that a male on a moped was seen looking into a vehicle on Weimar Street.

“He was challenged by a member of the public, possibly the owner of the vehicle, and a scuffle broke out.

“Both parties had left by the time police arrived, and enquiries are ongoing to trace them both.”
