Police have apologised to a man from Kingston for naming him in a press release on 24 October 2014.

The press release stated that a Mr Aneel Khan of Gloucester Road, Kingston upon Thames was one of two people convicted of an armed robbery on Putney High Street.

This information was incorrect and should not have been published. The person convicted of the said offence was a different Aneel Khan, not the one who resided at the material time in Gloucester Road, Kingston upon Thames.

Aneel Khan

The photograph accompanying the press release (see above) was of the correct Aneel Khan, the man who had been convicted of the armed robbery.

On 18th December the article on PutneySW15 was updated with the following correction:
CORRECTION (December 18th): We originally reported that Aneel Khan of Gloucester Road, Kingston upon Thames was the person jailed. Although he has the same name and age as the man convicted, the Aneel Khan who lives in Gloucester Road is a different person. We apologise to Mr Khan for this error, but point out that the information was taken from a Metropolitan Police press release with the incorrect address.

The Met said :
"We apologise unreservedly to Mr Khan for making this error and for any distress it may have caused.
