A man is in a critical condition after being injured during a fight near a Putney pub in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 9th December).

The police were called to reports of an altercation in the vicinity of the Duke's Head pub on the Lower Richmond Road at around 12.30pm. They found a 46 year old man with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital and his condition is being described as critical.

Officers from the Homicide & Serious Crime Command are investigating.

Detective Superintendent Penny Banham said:
" First aid was carried out at the scene and the victim conveyed to hospital where his condition is described as life threatening. Local Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be conducting reassurance patrols in the area. Please speak to the officers if you have any concerns or were a witness to the incident last night.

An incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
