On Tuesday 21st April 2009 Officers from the South West Traffic Tasking
Team conducted an Operation in Roehampton. Working in partnership with
Officers from Roehampton Safer Neighbourhoods Team they were stopping
and dealing with motorists for traffic matters and suspect behaviour.
A routine stop of a vehicle for a traffic offence led to the driver being arrested
for document offences and suspicion of theft of the vehicle as he would not
provide any details as to his identity. The passenger became hostile and tried
to punch one of the officers, were upon he was restrained and arrested for a
public order offence.
After the arrest and after conducting further enquiries the traffic Officers and
Wandsworth police searched a property in West Putney, SW15. The search of
the property revealed a large quantity of Class A and Class B drugs as well as
money and electrical items.
The 20 year old male driver from West Putney was subsequently
charged with Possession of Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply
and possession of criminal property. A nineteen-year-old male from
Roehampton has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Wandsworth and Putney Sector Inspector Kevan Martin said, “ This was a
fantastic piece of joint working which has resulted in two males being detained
and a large quantity of drugs been removed from the local streets.”
