Over the past few weeks, officers obtained search warrants under Sec. 5 (2) of the dangerous Dogs Act 1991. The West Putney Team together with officers from the Metropolitan Police Dog Support Unit attended several addresses to execute the search warrants, examine dogs and speak to the owners regarding responsible ownership.

As an effect of the successful operation, a dog owner was given words of advice also a Pitbull type dog was seized by police and the owner prosecuted under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

This is part of an ongoing investigation and valuable intelligence was gathered for the execution of further warrants in the future.

Due to concerns raised by the local community West Putney Safer Neighbourhood Team are currently working in partnership with Wandsworth Council Housing department, Wandsworth Dog wardens and the RSPCA in order to tackle ownership of illegal dogs and irresponsible dog owners. If someone is found to be in possession of an illegal dog or allows their dog to be dangerously out of control then not only may they be committing offences, but they may be in breach of their tenancy agreements with Wandsworth Council.
