A man brought traffic to a standstill in Putney this Tuesday (28 March) in what is believed to be a protest over temporary relocation of a bus stop.

According to Declan Wyatt, who filmed the incident, the man stood in front of a bus to ensure that it stopped. He told the Evening Standard, 'Rather than walking up to the bus stop, the man decided to stand in road and make sure that the 85 bus stopped at this stop, where it was not meant to. The driver refused to let him on, and therefore the man protested by standing in front of the bus so it could not move.’

The standoff carried on for 20 minutes until the driver of the bus rang the police in frustration. He was not arrested.

The man is believed to have been protesting about the relocation of the stop outside Putney Rail station which has been moved due to the repair works. He was heard saying that the closure meant that he had to walk half a mile to the next stop.

The protest led to traffic jams on the High Street and around the South Circular.
