Major road works are due to start in Barnes High Street on 15 February and they are not scheduled to finish until mid-April. Significant delays in the surrounding roads are expected.

Contractors Triio will be replacing an old cast iron gas pipe with a new mains pipe that won’t need replacing again ‘within our lifetimes’ apparently. There are four phases of work starting at the river end.

Phase 1 - Terrace Gardens to M&S

The junction between Terrace Gardens and Barnes High Street will be closed and the parking bays outside M&S will be suspended. There will be three-way lights at the junction of Barnes High Street and The Terrace.

Phase 2 - From M&S to 25 metres past St Anns Road

This work will be on the M&S side of the road, where the main is running along the kerbway between the carriageway and footpath. Triio say they will maintain access to all the shops but that some parking will be suspended.

Phase 3 - From St Anns Road to Stanton Road

This will involve moving the bus stop and three-way lights will be in place.

Phase 4 - Stanton Road to the Sun Inn

In this final phase the existing pedestrian crossing just by Rose House will be temporarily shifted and three-way lights will be in place.
