Fresh off the press, the very first BB book in 200 years is now yours for the taking - or the giving! Local Putney antique dealer Rosslyn Neave amassed an astonishing collection of not-so-humble breadboards, which have become the backbone of Putney's only museum – The Antique Breadboard Museum – and are showcased in this quirky book.

Far from being a dry, academic tome, chapters cover wood care, rare patterns, famous owners, masterful carvers and even recipes, all lushly illustrated. Indeed, many local visitors to the Museum will be surprised to see their breadboard photos, memories and anecdotes included.

This is a unique book, about a unique museum - the Antique Breadboard Museum in Putney, London, run by Madeleine Neave, It is a book perfect for collectors of kitchenalia and antiques, people who love car boot sales, and also a book for bakers.

Marie Lester has provided illustrated recipes for bread, Bara Brith, Greek sesame bread, German rye bread and more. She gives advice on using yeast, how to make a sourdough starter, and all the essentials you need to start baking.

Madeleine Neave tells us about the history of breadboards, and bread platters, from the Bayeux tapestry, Sheffield factories, to present day carvers making bespoke boards. You will become aware of how special these humble objects are, used daily in almost every kitchen. Madeleine Neave shows us how beautiful and varied the boards were, with the inclusion of butter knives, butter churners, and memories from her mother, Rosslyn, who began the collection after a childhood on a farm, milking cows by hand, and making butter.
