On 18th July Wandsworth Teaching PCT’s Board agreed to go ahead with plans to build a new Putney Primary Care Centre following a six-week public consultation.

The results of the public consultation show that 66% of Putney residents who responded are in favour of the new primary care centre, which will be built on the site of the old Putney Hospital. Three local GP practices will relocate to the centre: Putneymead Medical Centre, Balmuir Gardens Surgery and Dr Aaron’s Surgery, as well as a community clinic, the Eileen Lecky Clinic.

Ann Radmore, Chief Executive of Wandsworth Teaching PCT, said,“We are delighted to have the support of Putney residents to develop a purpose-built primary care centre, which will provide an excellent standard of care and greatly benefit local patients, carers and the wider community. We intend to address the concerns over transport that were raised during the consultation and are presently in negotiations to make the site as accessible as possible to the population we serve. We also understand that there is an ongoing issue around access to the land and we are working closely with the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators to resolve this.”

The Putney Primary Care Centre consultation, which ran from 25 June until 18 July 2007, gained a cross section of opinions from Putney residents and followed years of extensive involvement in plans for the centre by local patients and the public.

Wandsworth Council leader Edward Lister said, "The PCT's plans have been the subject of extensive consultation. The Putney GPs clearly have a need for new premises which the new development can provide. The old hospital building has been left empty far too long. "
