want people to be aware of the steps they can take to mark personal property with a distinct identification number.

www.immobilise.com is a service supported by the MPS, which allows people to register mobile phones, SatNav systems, car radios, cameras, PCs & laptops, iPods, power tools, bikes and other valuable items.

Registration is free and you can register as many products as you like.  You can flag any stolen item on the UK police forces stolen equipment national database and check the authenticity of second hand products before you buy.

PC Richard Weller (pictured left) from Fairfield SNT is working hard to spread the message to his ward. He said:

“Let’s warm it up this spring and make your property too hot to handle. Taking a few minutes out of your day to register your possessions on the Immobilise website is not a big ask and gives you a good chance of getting your stuff back.”

To help police in the reporting and detection of crime, people are encouraged to get together with their neighbours and join an existing or form a new Neighbourhood Watch.  Neighbourhood Watch is a popular way for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved and it brings local people together to address local crime issues. This can include keeping an eye on each other’s property, improving home security and sharing crime prevention advice.
